Getting Baptised as an Adult

Thinking About Being Baptised?

Some people are baptised as children. Others come to faith later in life and want to be baptised as adults, publicly committing themselves to Christ for the first time. If that’s you, we’d love to walk with you through it.

Baptism as an adult is different from a christening. It isn’t something that happens for you or is done on your behalf. It’s something you choose, having decided for yourself that you want to follow Jesus.

How It Works

We want the process to be warm, relaxed and straightforward. Here’s what to expect.

An initial chat

We start with an informal conversation, perhaps over a cup of tea or a visit, to hear your story, how you’ve come to this point, and answer any questions you have.

Thinking it through

If you’re still working out what you believe, that’s a good place to start. We run a short course called Credo: six weekly sessions for anyone who wants to think more carefully about what the Christian faith actually is. There’s no pressure to have everything settled before you begin, and plenty of people find it helps them decide whether baptism is the right next step for them.

Preparing for the day

Once you’re ready, we’ll spend time together preparing for your baptism, looking at what it means and the promises you’ll be making publicly.

The service

Adult baptisms usually take place during a main Sunday service, so our whole congregation can be there to support you and celebrate with you.
