Chris Webb reflects on attentiveness, in music lessons and in prayer, drawing on R.S. Thomas’s poem The Bright Field. The Very Revd Sarah Brown, Dean of Hereford, writes on why Christmas only makes sense once we admit how much we need a Saviour. Jonathan contributes two reflections: New Beginnings and Honest Hopes, on starting a new year gently rather than with grand resolutions, and Hospitality in the Midst of Winter, on making room for others at Christmas. Jean Thomson writes both a history of Holy Trinity’s Victorian building and architect, and an extract from a 1910 travel diary describing a Christmas sea voyage to Egypt.
